Baby Blanket Challenge

I am still working through all the yarn I bought at the A.C. Moore closing sale, so I set some goals for myself to use it up. One goal was to make 10 baby blankets. I am doing fairly well–just finished the fourth one this morning! So far I have chosen to crochet all the blankets, but I do intend to knit some as well.

I thought it would be fun to make a hexagon shaped blanket, so I crocheted seven hexagons thinking I would put one in the center and six around it. I must have been too distracted binging Little House on the Prairie because it was not till I finished all the hexagons and laid them out that I realized that it takes six equilateral triangles and not seven hexagons to make a large hexagon. (This folly was entirely my own and not the fault of the wonderful math teachers I have had throughout grade school and high school.) I did not feel like making some triangles to fill in the gaps, so I just sewed it together and crocheted a border around it ending with a cute flower-like shape.
